Ramona Giwargis is an award-winning news leader with more than a decade of experience covering politics and government, working across Northern California and Nevada before returning to her hometown of San Jose in January 2019 to accomplish her dream of launching the city’s first nonprofit news organization, San José Spotlight.
San José Spotlight has become a nationally-recognized nonprofit newsroom with more than 10 million readers as of early 2023 since its launch. Its impactful journalism has won nearly two dozen state and national awards.
Ramona is passionate about investigative and watchdog journalism that searches for truth, exposes wrongdoing and sheds light on injustice. An Assyrian immigrant, Ramona cares deeply about telling the stories of minority and underserved communities.
